3. Positive Idiom




This lesson is about a collection of idioms which are positive responses to a conversation

 

Know something inside out

Have knowledge of every detail of

something.

Ask Mary to help you with your

homework. She knows calculus inside

out.

Keeping my fingers crossed

Hoping for good luck

Their team is not favored to win. But I hope they do. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Out of this world

 Amazing

"That's the coolest thing I've ever seen. It's really out of this world."

Piece of cake

 Describes something that is easy to do.

"You won't have any problems with it. It's a piece of cake."

Sort Of

 A little; kind of

"Dinner was sort of expensive."

Good Luck

 Wishing someone well. Also can mean that it is not possible.

"Good luck on your interview tomorrow."

If You Insist

 To agree after the other person demands it

"We will stay longer if you insist."

It's Nothing

 To tell someone that the task you did was not a big deal.

"It's nothing. It didn't take long for me to do this."

My Pleasure

 Happy to do something for someone

"It is my pleasure to introduce you to our guests."

It's a Deal

 Agreeing on a proposal

"So if I take the kids to swim lessons, you will clean the house? It's a deal!"

Let's Go Fifty- Fifty

 Used when you are planning to pay half of something.

"Thanks for having dinner with us. Let's split the bill fifty-fifty."

My Two Cents

 To give or share your opinion

"I don't agree with what's happening. That's just my two cents."

It's a Piece of Cake

 Describes something that is easy to do.

"That test we took was a piece of cake."

Got It

 Asking someone if they understand; telling someone you understand

You will need to follow the directions if you want to do it right, got it?

You're Dressed to Kill

 Being dressed in a way to make people notice you; dressed very nicely; dressed to attract sexual attention

I really like your outfit! You're dressed to kill.

That Figures

 Another way of say, "that makes sense" or "I'm not surprised to hear that."

"He said he did not like your ideas? That figures."

No Sweat

 Telling someone it is "no problem"

"I can finish it for you, no sweat."

It Serves You Right

 Expressing that justice happened because the person got what they deserved

"It serves you right. You were not nice to him."

Good Point

 Used to tell someone that they had a good comment, thought, or suggestion

"Good point, I should have followed the instructions while building it."

It's Up To You

 Used to tell a person that they are the one to make a decision

"It's up to you, but I don't think we should bother him."

I'll Be Down

 To agree to participate in the plan

"If you don't want to go to the pool, I'll be down for whatever."
